Grade 5 students - born leaders!

As the Christmas season approached, so did the English Christmas concert! Our grade 5 class decided to include the kindergarten students, eventhough they don't have English classes - aren't they sweet? In small groups, the little ones learned the rime 'A Funny Little Snowman' ! It was a great success the day of the concert!

During the past weeks, the students have been researching animals, their habitats, what they eat, their young, their prey and much much more! First they researched their own animals, now they are creating a new breed of animals by combining two different animals together!

What better way to end a unit than to have a reptile zoo come to us?! The students were impressed by the 50lbs tortoise, the bearded dragon and the 40lbs snake, amongst many others!

The principal and I even had the priviledge of having the giant wrap itself around us!

Clay Animals

All work and no play makes teacher throw clay in student's face :)

Here are the results of the classe's clay animals...I have some very creative and artistic students!!

Pirates.

Far off in the distance they noticed a ship approaching...But who was aboard...?

It was the grade 5 language and communication group! They had been captured by pirates who needed their help to find a

lost treasure.

Each student had their own pirate identity. Afterwards they created a map of the secret island and wrote out hints to find the treasure.

Energy Theme: Eco-Energy Squad

Students have become recporets for the E2 news team. They must learn about how energy is produced and used in the town of Gustville.

Now, Enercorp is moving in to supply more power to the city, but which source will they use? By playing games, reading articles and having discussion groups, watching videos and much more, the student's must help choose the best solution! Will it be hydroelecrticity, wind power, nuclear power, solar power or fossil fuels?  Come back to see the final results!

Visit to the Electrium in Ste-Julie.

Last week we learned about the history of egg decorating and how to describe the various lines we use to decorate them.

What to do next? Decorate our own eggs!! Look how beautiful they are :)

Maple Syrup Season!

A CIME representative came to visit our class and share the who, what when and where of Maple Syrup!

The presentation began with a little bit of story telling...the legend of how maple syrup was discrovered! Then we got to chance to taste sap, the base for maing maple syrup. Then, we played a game to learn how maple syrup is made and how the process has evolved over time!

And then, the moment we were all waiting for...tasting!!!

The students tasted different maple products...

Maple syrup, maple butter, soft maple sugar and

maple candies! Needless to say they were on a

sugar high when they left school that day!

If I could, I would...

Ever wished you could have the best, coolest bedroom? Well this unit allowed the students to learn TONS of vocabulary and create their dream bedrooms!

After sharing their bedrooms with their classmates, they decided to invite the entire school and their parents to come check out their amazing ideas and their artistic capabilities!!

Food For Thought...

Learning about food in class made us all very hungry so we decided to invite a professional cook to come show us how to make some delicious desserts. The students loved getting their hands dirty...especially when it was to make something they would later eat.

After this activity, they were so excited about making food that we decided to create our own recipes! Some sounded tastier than others.

Since I love food, I had them prepare a recipe of their choice at home and bring it to class to make a class recipe book since their invented recipes were less appetizing!

A visit to Fort Débrouillard left the students cold, wet and muddy. However they returned home with great memories! They were true warriors!

Since the students' return from Christmas break, they have been corresponding with students from another school in our school board. It seemed only fair that they get the chance to meet! So I packed up my students and off we went! The students had a picnic outside, where they got to chat a little bit with their penpals. Then, they visited the school and played some games with their new friends!

The students had a blast!!

Abracadabra

On the second last day of school, camp counsellors from Camp YouHou! came to fill the last magician spot on their team! They showed us tricks and believe it or not, all the students were naturals!
